DeSclafani expected to return Tuesday
DeSclafani was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 3 (retroactive to July 2) after admitting that he was “running on fumes a little bit” after missing most of last season due to right ankle surgery. The 33-year-old veteran recorded a 2.13 ERA over his first six starts of the year, but his effectiveness waned after that, and he yielded a 6.02 ERA over his last 11 outings.
DeSclafani began a rehab assignment on July 13, tossing four innings of one-run ball in a Rookie-level Arizona Complex League game. He is scheduled to start in the second game of the Giants’ four-game series in Cincinnati on July 18. (Last updated: July 17)
Jackson is expected to miss two to three weeks after coming out of the Giants’ 7-6 win over the D-backs with a back strain on June 24. The 31-year-old veteran had logged a 2.16 ERA in nine appearances since returning from Tommy John surgery. He began a rehab assignment on July 13, throwing a scoreless inning in an Arizona Complex League game. (Last updated: July 14)
RHP John Brebbia (right lat strain)
Expected return: Second half
Brebbia suffered a Grade 2 right lat strain while pitching the first inning of the Giants’ win over the Dodgers on June 16. He is continuing to rehab in Arizona and was scheduled to begin a throwing program on July 14. (Last updated: July 14)
IF Thairo Estrada (left hand fracture)
Expected return: August
Estrada was hit in the hand by an Adam Ottavino pitch in the eighth inning of the July 2 contest vs. the Mets. He remained in the game, but subsequent scans revealed a fracture, and he was placed on the 10-day IL on July 3. He’s expected to miss four to six weeks and is currently rehabbing in Arizona.
