Actor and director Timothy Busfield appeared in a New Mexico courtroom for the first time since turning himself in on serious criminal charges involving a minor. The brief hearing marked his initial public appearance following allegations of child abuse and criminal sexual contact.
Busfield was brought into court wearing an orange jail uniform and restraints. The appearance lasted only a short time, but the judge confirmed that he will remain behind bars without bond. Another court hearing has already been scheduled for later this month as the case continues to move forward.
Allegations Linked to 2022 TV Set
According to prosecutors, the accusations stem from Busfield’s time directing the television series The Cleaning Lady in New Mexico in 2022. Authorities allege that two child actors on the show, who were reportedly 7 and 8 years old at the time, were victims of inappropriate sexual conduct. The children’s parents allegedly came forward two years later, prompting the Albuquerque Police Department to launch a criminal investigation.
Defense Claims Motive of Retaliation
Busfield’s civil attorney, Larry Stein, has publicly pushed back against the accusations, suggesting there may be an underlying motive tied to retaliation. Stein pointed to statements in the criminal complaint claiming that an actress on set overheard the children’s mother expressing anger after her sons were removed from the show’s final season, allegedly vowing to seek revenge.
Stein further stated that Warner Bros. commissioned an independent investigation using an outside law firm. According to the defense, the investigator interviewed roughly a dozen individuals connected to the production and ultimately determined that the evidence did not support the allegations.
Busfield Denies All Claims
Busfield has strongly denied the accusations, insisting he plans to fight them head-on. He has maintained that the claims are false, stating he intends to “confront these lies” and asserting that he did not harm the children involved.
New Accusation Emerges
The court appearance also comes amid a newly revealed allegation. Court documents disclose that a man recently accused Busfield of inappropriate behavior involving his 16-year-old daughter years ago in Sacramento, California. The man claims Busfield kissed the teenager and touched her inappropriately. Authorities have not yet indicated whether additional charges will be filed in connection with this latest claim.
As the legal process unfolds, Timothy Busfield Will Continue to Be Held on Child Sex Allegations, with prosecutors, defense attorneys, and the courts preparing for what is expected to be a closely watched and highly contentious case.
